Frequently Asked Questions — Wing Foiling Lessons Melbourne
How long does it take to learn wing foiling?
Most students get their first foil rides within 4–6 hours of instruction. Our 6-hour Passport to Wing package covers everything from wing handling and water starts through to your first foil rides. Progress depends on wind conditions, fitness, and individual ability — our instructors adapt every session to maximise your time on the water.
Do I need prior experience to start wing foiling?
No prior experience is required. Some background in watersports (surfing, SUP, kiteboarding) can help you progress faster, but it’s not essential. If you can swim confidently and handle a few hours of physical activity, you’re ready to start.
What’s included in the wing foiling lesson price?
Everything. Wing, foilboard, hydrofoil, wetsuit, helmet, and two-way communication headsets are all provided. There are no additional gear hire fees — your lesson price covers it all. Just bring sunscreen, a towel, and the right attitude.
Is wing foiling hard to learn?
Wing foiling has a learning curve, but with proper instruction it’s more accessible than many people expect. Most beginners get through wing handling and water starts in their first session. Getting up on the foil reliably typically takes 4–8 hours. Splitting lessons across multiple days helps your body and brain consolidate skills between sessions.
What is the minimum age for wing foiling lessons?
Students must be at least 14 years old to join our wing foiling lessons. Younger students may join with parental consent and are assessed individually. There’s no upper age limit — wing foiling is low-impact and suitable for a wide range of ages and fitness levels.
Where are wing foiling lessons held in Melbourne?
All lessons run at St Kilda West Beach, off Marine Parade, St Kilda — about 6km from the Melbourne CBD. It’s Melbourne’s premier wing foiling spot: consistent sea breeze, shallow water ideal for learning, wide sandy beach, and easy parking. Our shop and base is at the beachfront.
