Frequently Asked Questions — Kiteboarding Lessons Melbourne
How long does it take to learn to kitesurf?
Most students are up and riding independently within 6–10 hours of instruction. Our 6-hour Passport to Ride package gets the majority of beginners riding; the 10-hour Zero to Hero package builds consistency and confidence. Progress depends on wind conditions and individual ability — our instructors adapt every session to maximise your time on the water.
Do I need to be fit or have prior experience?
No prior experience needed. A general level of fitness helps — you’ll be swimming, body dragging, and getting on a board — but kiteboarding lessons are designed for all backgrounds. If you can swim and handle a few hours of physical activity, you’re ready to start.
What’s included in the lesson price?
Everything. Kite, board, harness, wetsuit, helmet, and radio coaching equipment are all provided. There are no additional gear hire fees — your lesson price covers it all. Just bring sunscreen, a towel, and the right attitude.
Can I learn kiteboarding in one day?
You can make significant progress in a single day, but independent riding typically takes 6–10 hours spread across multiple sessions. Splitting lessons over separate days lets your brain and body consolidate skills between water time — most students progress faster with 2–3 sessions than one long marathon day.
What is the minimum age for kiteboarding lessons?
Students must be at least 14 years old to join our kiteboarding lessons. Younger students may join with parental consent and will be assessed individually. There’s no upper age limit — we regularly teach students in their 50s and 60s.
Where exactly are lessons held in Melbourne?
All lessons run at St Kilda West Beach, off Marine Parade, St Kilda — about 6km from the Melbourne CBD. It’s Melbourne’s best kiteboarding spot: consistent sea breeze, shallow water ideal for beginners, wide sandy beach, and easy parking. Our shop and base is at the beachfront.
