Repairing Pinholes

EQUIPMENT NEEDED:

– Scissors

– Alcohol Wipe

– Canopy Tape

STEP 1 – PREPARE THE KITE

– Make sure the kite is clean and dry.

– Wipe the damaged area thoroughly with an alcohol wipe.

– Let the alcohol completely dry before applying a patch.

PROPER PREPARATION OF THE DAMAGED AREA BEFORE PROCEEDING IS IMPORTANT – OTHERWISE THE REPAIR WILL NOT HOLD.

STEP 2 – CUT CANOPY TAPE?TO SIZE

– 2 patches are required (one for each side) at least 1-2 cm bigger around all edges of the pinhole.

– Cut a piece of canopy tape from the roll about twice the size of the required patch.

– Fold the piece of tape in half, and cut a circle?about the size of a 10 cent coin (or a 20 cent coin for bigger pinholes)

STEP 3 – APPLY THE PATCHES

– Remove the backing from one of the patches, and place it directly over the pinhole.

– Press firmly on the patch, from the middle out to the edges of the patch.

– Remove the backing from the other patch, and line it up with the patch on the other side of the kite.
(holding the canopy up to a light or against the sun can help to match the edges of the patches exactly)

– Press firmly on the patch, from the middle out to the edges of the patch.

– Apply some heat to the patches by gently rubbing your palms together over both sides of the patch.
Be careful not to rub too hard as this can lift the edges of the repair and the patch will come off
(this is also a good test to see if you have prepared and applied the patch properly).

The adhesive on the patch allows the kite to be used straight away, but?if possible allow the patch to bond completely in a dry environment for approx 24 hrs before using.
