Mr. Zog’s Sex Wax Surf Wax
Some things don’t need reinventing. Since Frederick Herzog and chemist Nate Skinner first developed the formula in 1972, Mr. Zog’s Sex Wax has remained the benchmark for surfboard grip. The paraffin and beeswax blend goes on smooth, builds reliable texture quickly, and holds its tackiness through long sessions without balling up or patching unevenly.
Available in five temperature grades — choose the right hardness for your water temperature and you’ll get maximum grip without the wax turning to mush (too soft) or refusing to stick (too hard). Use a harder grade as a base coat under a softer top coat for a customised grip system.

Construction
The formula is a blend of paraffin wax, beeswax, and coconut oil. The paraffin base provides the structural backbone and grip; beeswax adds tackiness and workability; coconut oil gives the wax its characteristic scent and contributes to a smooth, even application. Temperature grade is controlled by adjusting the ratio — harder grades for warmer water, softer grades for cold water where a firm wax would never soften enough to grip.
Why We Recommend It
Sex Wax is what we keep behind the counter because it works and everyone knows it. At this price there’s no reason to experiment with cheaper alternatives — a good wax job with the right temperature grade makes a genuine difference to how your board feels underfoot. If you’re unsure which grade to go for, Orange is the safest all-round choice for most Australian conditions.
