WHAT SETS NAISH APART FROM OTHER BRANDS? Naish’s quality and performance have been standouts for me. Having that confidence in reliable gear makes me push myself that much harder on the water.
How do you maintain your edge?
Well, I dig my board into the water and lean back
What’s your favorite kite trick?
Backmobes are probably my favourite trick because they feel so fluid. It’s quite a different rotation to most of my other tricks and you can pull it off even when the wind is really light.
Any new tricks you’re working on?
S-mobes are next on my list to get consistent. I’ve landed them a couple times now but that doesn’t count until I land them most sessions.
“The harder I try, the luckier I get.”
What song are you obsessed with right now?
It’s a bit of a mix really. I love listening to anything from Alt J to The Arctic Monkeys to The Kooks.
What’s the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Don’t grow up too fast. Otherwise in 10 years time you’ll look back and wish you were a kid again.
If you could get everyone to try one thing, WHAT would it be and WHY?
Snorkeling with Humpback whales. Being that close to graceful, gigantic creatures is breathtaking—literally! I was so encapsulated and dove down so deep that when I took a break I choked on water. Watching those whales disappear into the depths makes you realise just how massive the ocean is.
What is your philosophy on life?
Grab life by the balls. Don’t sit around waiting for something to happen. Get out there and do it.
WHERE is your favorite place on earth (so far) and WHY?
Hood River, Oregon. I’ve never been to such a happening place in my life. You can go kiting, stand up paddling, snowboarding, mountain biking and hiking all in one week, or a day if you can fit it all in!
How do you keep yourself inspired if things don’t work out as planned?
I believe that everything happens for a reason. Even if things don’t go your way at the time, it usually leads you to opportunities you’ve never even dreamt of. Remembering that picks me up and keeps me going.
