Following a week of watching the best in Australia battle it out in the 2010 Australian Freestyle Nationals everyone was completely psyched to join the South West Kite Krew (SWKK) and escape the big smoke for the weekend.

Warrnambool was the ideal location for the KR KITE CLUB February Tour. Our hosts Mark and Gemma were amazing. Always good when you get in to town at 10pm and the wheelbarrow bonfire is cranking and there is a chest full of drinks ready to go.

From there it just continued to get better and better.

Day 1 on the water provided us with strong but gusty conditions as we ventured along the SW Victorian Coastline before settling for the afternoon in Port Fairy, escorted through the local spots by Crowey. Thanks again mate!

Very much borderline conditions for the kites meant only the more advanced riders on the tour could enjoy the wind for the first day. Everyone else made the most of the Standup Paddle (SUP) Boards that were kindly leant to us by SUPB St Kilda, make sure you check them out when you’re next in the area!

With tired bodies from a day on the water and still some sore heads after being shown the Warrnambool nightlife the night before it was a quieter night in preparation for the great conditions to come on Sunday.

Day 2, we couldn’t have asked for more. Amazing session on the water in Killarney saw everyone out on the water and huge improvements by the entire crew. A few more of the locals joined us and we all enjoyed a great BBQ on the beach, thanks to Michael for being out outback chef for the day!

Waves out the back were taken advantage of by just about everyone as the SUP boards were cracked out yet again, and the wind was firing.

Flat water, waves, wind, good food and great company, what more could you ask for on a weekend away!

Thankyou very much to everyone who made the weekend another great one. A special thanks to Mark Gavin for all his help, generosity and sharing his local knowledge, to Gemma for putting up with us and getting amongst it out there on the water, to Crowey for sharing his local knowledge and being so welcoming to the whole crew, to Jason for helping out and impressing the crew out there on the water, and to everyone else that came along and got involved while we were there.

AWESOME TIMES!
